The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) was created on 31st December 2004 following the scrapping of the Ministry of the Federal Capital Territory (MFCT). Since its establishment, the FCTA has been administered by the FCT Ministers.
The establishment of the Federal capital Territory Administration is one of the key elements of the Administrative reforms of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to reposition the FCT towards enhanced service delivery.
The reforms brought about significant changes in the administrative structure of the FCT. In line with this, Seven (7) new Mandate Secretariats were created. These are:
. Education secretariat
. Transport Secretariat
. Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat
. Health and Human Services
. Social development Secretariat
